Courage Snapshot
In class, I have been reading about Jesus Christ's life and looking for acts of courage. I then had thirty minutes to write about it.
Anyone can hide, facing up to things, working through them, that's what makes you strong. The world needs courageous people. Valient, bold, mighty - all of these are traits of a courageous person. Courageous people feel fear, however, they don't let it control them. Instead, they triumph over it and stand up for what is right. The perfect example of this is the life of Jesus Christ. In Jesus's life, he overcame many trials and challenges. He overcame a man possessed by a demon, he conquered a storm, even overcame death itself. Jesus was human like you and me and yet still stood up to all these challenges, which leads me to the point of this writing: How Jesus showed courage.
It was said in Luke 4:31 that Jesus was preaching to his followers when he was confronted by a man possessed by a demon. The demon threw himself in front of Jesus and cried out to him in an attempt to intimidate Jesus. Nevertheless, Jesus didn't back down, with authority he rebuked the demon and banished it from the man's body. Jesus was courageous in this story because he wasn't threatened by the demon, he had the courage to stand up to it and rebuke it even though it would've been frightening. This story teaches me to never back down, never give up, never bow down to challenges that I face, with God on our side he will give us the courage to face anything and everything in life.
We all know the story of Jesus's crucifixion, but what you might not know is the grief Jesus went through before it. Before Jesus was crucified he went to the garden of Gethsemene to pray. Jesus cried out to God being him to take the burden off him, Jesus was overwhelmed to the point of death, he was trembling and sweating blood. This goes to show Jesus was a human and felt fear and pain to the point where he was trembling. Jesus was super courageous in this story; he didn't let fear control him. He had the willpower to go to Mt Calvary pay the ultimate price for our sins. What this means to me is, it's fine to feel fear, courage isn't the absence of fear but the power to overcome it. And with Jesus anything is possible.
In short, we can learn many things from the life of Jesus, it teaches us the value of courage and how we can apply it in our lives, it teaches us to never give up for we have God on our side, it teaches us that we can move mountains with the power of Jesus. Jesus was courageous and to this day is a superb role model to all of us.
