COVID-19 Vaccine.

During lockdown and in class, I wrote a persuasive argument trying to persuade readers to keep the Covid - 19 Phizer vaccine optional. I learned how to write a counterargument.

                                                                 

When God created the world he gave his people freedom of choice. A choice to do right or wrong, a choice to do what you want to. If the government makes the COVID 19 (Pfizer vaccine) mandatory, our rights to exercise free choice will be stripped away. The use of any medicine doesn't come without a ranging risk, which is why I believe the COVID 19/Pfizer vaccine should not be mandatory in NZ.

Back in 1993, the New Zealand government passed a law called ‘The human rights act’. This act was aimed at giving every citizen of New Zealand rights, this includes: The right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and freedom of speech, opinion and expression. According to NZ Human Rights, the 1990 New Zealand bill of rights states that NZ citizens have the right to refuse medical treatment. Tyranny, dictatorship, dominance - is this what we want our country to become? Some people are against the vaccine; others think everyone should get it. Studies have shown about 95% of people who received both doses of the vaccine were protected against contracting COVID 19. However, forcing it upon people who don't want it is literally against the law.

 

To date, the COVID 19 Pfizer vaccine has many known side effects. The most commonly reported reactions are headaches, muscle aches, fatigue, a fever, chills and joint pains, only to name a few. Take it from me, I'm tall and often experience joint pains and muscle aches, it is not fun. The Pfizer vaccine can also cause an allergic reaction causing rashes, swelling and itching at the injection site. According to RNZ, On August 31 NZ reported its first death linked to the vaccine’s side effects. 

To conclude, I believe the Pfizer vaccine should not be mandatory - as it is quite literally against the law. People should have free choice on what they put into their bodies. Not only this, the side effects of the Pfizer vaccine can be very harmful and in my opinion not worth the risk. Hence why I believe that our government should give New Zealanders the choice to get the Pfizer vaccine or not.
